How I style my naturally curly hair!

Having curly hair can be such a struggle sometimes. I spent years and years throwing my hair back into a messy ponytail because I simply had no clue what to do with it. I even felt self-conscious about my hair and ended up doing all I could think of to make it look 'normal'. I couldn't brush it like all my friends. In fact, I couldn't really wear it down at ALL!

Well, okay, I COULD have worn it down... but I didn't like it down. It would go all frizzy and poofy and get all up in my face. But I really couldn't brush it. Put a brush to my head and I will go from women to lion in the space of 2 minutes. It is almost impressive. Anyway, I digress, having curly hair isn't easy. There are so many different types of curls and it's really all about finding what works for you and your hair.

Personally, it has taken some time (about 19 years to be exact), but I think I have found a way of styling my hair that makes me feel confident and beautiful and fierce and all that other good stuff. To me, that is what all this fashion and beauty stuff is about. Feeling confident and beautiful and fierce. It's about accepting yourself for what you are and reflecting that in whatever way you like. For me, my hair is a big part of that right now. So, without further ado, here is my current hair routine for naturally curly hair!

Messy bun.

A messy bun is my go-to lazy hair. Having thick curly hair, having it down often leaves me feeling like a lion (I am hoping to get it cut soon so hopefully that will solve my problem. I can't wait!) . I also hate having my hair in my face most of the time so I end up just throwing it back into a messy bun. Now the typical 'messy bun' is usually pretty high and looks cute and messy. However, this does not work for me I have quite a lot of thick hair. This means that in an attempt to create this cute bun the whole messy aspect just doesn't work and the actual bun is big and heavy meaning that gravity takes over pulling it down. In result, it pulls on my head and creates this whole 'flat on top and big on the back' kind of vibe. Definitely not cute.

So, I have discovered the perfect way to create my own messy bun that looks pretty cute and doesn't pull at all. It is a very basic low messy bun that is great for when you just need tog et your hair out of your face. In order to create this, you take a hair band on your wrist and just pull your hair into a low ponytail. However, when pulling the hair through, don't pull it through the entire way. Then, twist the band and repeat the last process until the band is right. Super easy, super cute and it literally takes 10 seconds.

Here are a few pics of the end product...

I hope you enjoyed reading about my messy bun and maybe you fancy giving this a go too. To make this a little less messy you can pin the bun into shape or you can just leave it as is, the choice is yours.

Have a lovely weekend and I will speak to you soon.

2 fast and easy prom inspired hairstyles!

Now this year I have no prom of sorts, however, I am aware that many people do. Therefore I decided to share two super quick and easy hairstyle that I have been loving and think would be perfect for prom!

For this first hairstyle, you will need to start with your hair down in  a middle parting. Next, you need to split your hair into three equal parts. I suggest using a hair band to keep the sections separate. Then you select a small amount of hair from one of the front sections, near the roots and split it into two. You then simply twist the two pieces of hair around each other, adding in a little more hair as you go, until your entire section is a French twisted braid. You then repeat this on the other front section until you have two French twisted braids and one section left. The final step is to the take all three sections and complete a normal braid and voila! To finish of this hairstyle, you can then pull at the braid a little to add texture and pull a piece of hair down to frame your face, whatever suits you.

I think this hairstyle is super cute, easy and only took about 5/10 minutes. This hairstyle can be dressed up for prom or dressed down for an everyday casual hairstyle.

Sorry about the shocking phone photo quality.

For the second hairstyle, you firstly need to complete the stages above for the first hairstyle. However, you then twist the braid into a bun and pin into place. Again, this hairstyle is super easy to do and is the perfect updo for prom!

So there we have my two prom inspired hairstyles.
I am 100% not a professional, nor do I claim to be. I did, however, enjoy experimenting with these hairstyles and am happy with the result. Also, I apologise for my bad explanation on this styles and hope you still understood my rambling.

If you are going to prom then I hope you have a lovely time, stay safe and I am sure you will look amazing!

Cutting off my hair

Hello, everybody!
So about 3 weeks ago I chopped off a decent amount of hair. I went from all this ...

 to this...

About just over a year before I got my hair dyed ombre. I really like the colour and it was nice. However, I hadn't died my hair before this and it proved very difficult to care for. I hadn't had my hair cut since I got it died and therefore my hair was in horrible condition. It felt dead and weak and it was just a nightmare to deal with. I had been wanting to go for a big change for a while so I just went ahead and cut it.

Honestly, I miss the length of my hair a lot but it feels so much nicer now. It's a lot easier to care for and I know that my hair will grow quickly. I don't regret cutting it but I am excited for it to grow back!

Just a quick post but I wanted to write about it, so I did.

Thanks for reading, I hope your day goes well.

Bye!

October favourites

As October ends and November begins, I do believe it's time to review my October favourites.
October has come and gone super fast but I have still enjoyed using many products. I have narrowed it down to six items, so let's begin.

My first product is my baby lips hydrating lip balm by Maybelline. After hearing so many people rave about it I finally got around to trying it, and I have absolutely adored it! I suffer from dry lips all the time but it gets even worse around this time of year, which is why a hydrating lip balm is an absolute must have. This lip balm is super easy to apply and really moisturising. I cant wait to try them all.

My second favourite is the Tetley 'blend of both' tea. This tea has been my favourite tea for the past few months. It's half original tea and half green tea. As well as being a little healthier than usual tea, this tastes heavenly. I can't get enough of it! I haven't always liked tea but this tea has made me a bit of an addict. Oops.

One of my favourite foods/snacks lately is salted pretzels. I love them! Great snacks and super addictive, they are delicious. You can get these from pretty much any supermarket and I am in love with them so much. Yum.

My next favourite is my hair clips from Primark. With 12 in a pack at only £1,  I figured I would give them a try and I have found them really useful. I tend to use these when clipping hair out of my face or when having my hair in a braid. These are really useful and stay in my hair the entire day.

Now for my skincare favourite of the month, the clean & clear foaming wash. As I was strolling around Superdrug earlier this month I came across this fairly new product. I, unfortunately, do suffer from breakouts that are pretty obvious and usually am left with scars. So my skincare routine is pretty crucial to me. I was in need of a new cleanser as my previous one was coming to an end so I figured, why not? This face wash leaves my skin feeling clean as well as soothing my skin. As someone with combination skin, this is very useful as well as helping to clear my blemishes.

My final favourite is the Elvive anti-frizz shampoo. I have naturally curly hair which I have learnt to love (most of the time) however, the one thing I absolutely hate about my hair is how frizzy it gets. This means that the majority or hair products I use are anti-frizz. My hair is never 100% frizz free but this defiantly helps and leaves my hair feeling lovely and soft.

That's all for my October favourites. Bring on November!
